Trading Flying Gore for Jiggly Breasts?by Irving_Washington

February 03, 2010: Okay, so I rented Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 from Gamefly. Got it in the mail last night, beat half of it on the hardest difficulty I could select (Path of the Warrior), and it has refreshed my memory on what it was like to play Ninja Gaiden 2 on the XBOX 360.

First off, when I beat the game on the 360, I was playing on the easiest of the two difficulties (Path of the Acolyte) and I was getting stomped level after level. The boss fights were sadistic and regular enemies tore me apart every now and then. In Sigma 2, on the Warrior difficulty, I'm flying through the game. The developers really lightened up on the difficulty for these two available difficulties. I know you unlock Path of the Mentor and Path of the Master Ninja later, and these will tear you apart like the old game. Even so, the game isn't a cake walk, as you must still dodge and fight with some level of skill, though the gameplay is mostly buttonmashing now. It is still a fun game, and I did enjoy Momiji's (one of the three female playable characters) level, and she was good fun to play as. The twin bosses I had to fight at the end of her level were harder than anything in the main game.

I haven't done any chapter challenges, but I'm sure I will, as I wants me some trophies. (Get Master Ninja on every chapter of a difficulty and you get a trophy for mastering that difficulty). I also haven't done any co-op, which you can do with an AI partner or with someone online.

One thing that bugs me though is the fact that I had to sign in to Playstation Network to play this game's single player mode. I don't know if I have the ability to play it offline as well, like Demon's Souls, because the game warns me that if for some reason I lose connection and sign out of PSN, then the game will quit. This sound really, really stupid. I understand being signed in to recored games of chapter challenge or co-op or whatever, but to play the single player game? It doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, the controls are touchy and the camera pretty much sucks. You are in full control of the camera, of course, I just wish it was a little smarter at staying behind me or on the action. There are areas where you must do your little ninja hop up two flat surfaces to get to the top of something, and while this is fine when you get started, it can be a pain to line up the jump correctly. I stopped in between to watchtower bases and knew I had to do the ninja jump hop thing up them and kill the archers. And for the first few tries, every time I would jump at the base of the tower to get started, I would wall run and hop off in another direction. And no, I wasn't jumping at in at an angle, I was dead on jumping straight at it. I don't know what the deal was, but it was irritating. And yes, I eventually got to the top of the towers and eviscerated the enemies.

On the topic of trading blood and gore for jiggly boobies:

First off, I sorta like the purplish blue mist that flies from severed limb areas. It looks cool and still seems like a blood spray of sorts. I approve. Secondly, the I shake that Sixaxis controller whenever I see a pair of breasts, but they seem to be made of concrete, as I have yet to see a jiggle. I really don't care about this "perk" of Sigma 2, but it doesn't seem to be working for me.

All in all, even with its cheap flaws, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is just as much fun if not more fun than the original...
